Move and Groove at Kylemore Greens Park

Kylemore Greens Park sign
Today Move and Groove with DPPL visited Kylemore Greens Park on the northwest side of Des Plaines.

ROLL WITH IT.

RAISE THE ROOF.

ZING!  ZANG!  ZOOM!

We started out with Becky reading Construction by Sally Sutton and had fun guessing what was being built.

We heard the sounds of construction and made our own noise.

Children learn through play and so imitating actions like digging and hammering, along with making those respective sounds, help kids understand the world around them.

We listened to Mouse In My Toolbox by Laurie Berkner and practiced our carpenter moves.

Movement breaks like this allow kids to refocus and pay attention to what is coming next.

Miss Stephanie read a second book, The Perfect Fit, by Naomi Jones and James Jones.

We saw colors and shapes and were reminded how important each of us is.

This book not only reinforced early literacy concepts but brought in socio-emotional lessons as well.

These ideas prepare kids for school and friendship.

And, as we say in Youth Services, it isn't a party without bubbles!

So, we rounded out our time together by dancing with bubbles.

The chalk course we left behind encourages all kinds of movement and concepts such as;

HOPPING

AND

HAMMERING

AND PATTERNS

AND

MAKING NOISE

We sent home activity bags with ideas and supplies to construct your own perfect fit of a craft.

Thanks so much to the Des Plaines Park District for letting us bust a move at the park.

Join us for the next (and last of 2023) Move and Groove on Thursday, July 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Mohawk Park, 504 Good Avenue in Des Plaines.
