Getting help at the library

Our staff members will be glad to help you if you need extra assistance while you're here.

Adaptive or assistive equipment - in the library only

  • Wheelchair and walker for getting around the library (1st floor desk)
  • Sensory tool kits with fidgets and noise cancelling headphones (2nd floor desk)
  • Hand-held magnifiers and reading glasses (3rd and 4th floor desks)
  • Enlarger with color monitor (4th floor)
  • Screen magnification and text-to-speech software on the public computers (4th floor)
  • All catalog computers have magnifying features. See staff at any information desk if you need assistance.

Our collections

LIBRARY OF THINGS ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

We have many adaptive items that can be checked out of the library. A few examples:

Visit the "Library of Things Assistive Technology" display on the 3rd floor, near the 3rd floor desk. You can also browse the collection online.

LARGE PRINT BOOKS

We offer a wide variety of large print books. Look for our large print collection on the 3rd floor. Staff at the Readers' Services desk can help you find titles.

AudioBOOKS

We have a great collection of audiobooks on CD and Playaway on the 3rd floor. You can browse our audiobooks online.

You can also download digital audiobooks to play on a variety of devices.

Distance assistance

The State of Illinois offers assistance to the disabled through its National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Also, see the Talking Book & Braille Service through the Illinois Secretary of State's office.

Can't make it to the library?

If you can't come to the library due to a disability or special need, you might be eligible for outreach delivery service.
