Mobile Library
As of December 2011, the mobile library is longer in service.
But all the services you've grown to love from the mobile library – and even more - continue to be available at the main library located at 1501 Ellinwood Street across from the train station in downtown Des Plaines.
At the main library, you can:
- Choose from more than 26,000 DVDs and 17,000 CDs, including more new releases and popular titles.
- Read more than 400 daily, weekly and monthly newspapers and magazines.
- Attend one of our free programs. With more than 75 programs a month, covering everything from baby book times to computer classes, musical performances to career networking groups, book groups to virtual bowling leagues, there's something for everyone.
- Solve a Problem! Representatives of State Senator Dan Kotowski, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and State Representative Rosemary Mulligan have regular office hours at DPPL.
- Check your email or surf the web from one of our 62 public access computers or access free Wi-Fi with your own laptop or mobile device.
- Select from an even larger collection of popular fiction, non-fiction, mystery, romance, audiobooks, playaways and more.
- Need assistance or a friendly recommendation? DPPL staff are ready and willing to help you find a book, or answer a reference question. Stop by the service desks on any floor for assistance.
- Try out an eReader! You can now check one out for a four week loan period at DPPL! On the 3rd floor, you can also learn about using MyMediaMall to download free ebooks and audiobooks.
- Explore all that the 2nd floor youth services department has to offer. Families with kids birth through 8th grades will find kid-content friendly computers with educational games, a huge selection of children's DVDs and CDs and books galore!
- Get to know us – the staff is the heart of your public library.
Getting to DPPL is easy via Public Transportation
