Community Resources

Drop in for help with immigration, visas, Social Security and Medicare

A staffperson from Representative Jan Schakowsky’s office will come to the library the third Wednesday of every month from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to assist people with questions on immigration, visas, veterans’ benefits and basic questions on Social Security and Medicare. Her name is Ann Limjoco. No sign-up is required.

Audiobook link Downloadable Audiobooks for English Language Learners

Our collection of audiobooks from NetLibrary includes the popular Pimsleur series for learning English. These audiobooks may be downloaded to your home computer and transferred to a portable listening device. Users must first set up an account on a computer at the library. For more information, call the Readers’ Services Desk 847-376-2840.

World Language Materials

Books (Click here for lists of books in world languages.)

The library has a large collection of fiction and nonfiction books in world languages. They are located next to the ESL/Literacy collection. Many popular large print Spanish books are also available.

Audiobooks

The library collects audiobooks in Spanish. The collection includes fiction and nonfiction titles.

DVDs

The library collects DVDs in their original languages with English subtitles. Some popular American movies with Spanish subtitles are also available. Most DVD’s offer Spanish subtitles; a smaller number offer French and German subtitles.

Foreign Language Standing Order Program

This program allows individuals to receive a set number of world language books every month from libraries in the North Suburban Library System. You may specify what types of books you would like. Ask at the Readers’ Services Desk for information on how to sign up.

The library subscribes to many world language magazines and newspapers including:
