Tech Talk

by John Haliotis

Come into the library and check out some of our new equipment. We have recently obtained new digital photocopiers, which produce much better copies than the analog equivalent. Along with these new copiers, we also have a new set of software for printing from our Internet and lab computers. This software makes better use of our network resources and should allow you to print quickly and easily.

We are pleased to announce that we have updated our lab computers to include Microsoft Office 2000, which includes Word for word processing, Excel for spreadsheets, PowerPoint for desktop presentations, Access for database management, and Publisher for page layout. We expect to update to Office XP by the end of the year, which includes the 2002 versions of these programs.

Finally, in preparation for our library automation changes coming later this year, we have upgraded all of our online catalog computers. These machines should work much more efficiently than the ones we were using. We have also replaced and upgraded some of our lab and Internet computers. All of these changes should provide a much better computer experience here at the library.

If you have any questions, call the library at 847/827-5551.

CHECK OUT MOBILE LIBRARY'S NEW SCHEDULE

The Mobile Library's new schedule, which begins in September, includes many changes. Among the new stops are Jewel and Dominick's, both on Lee/Mannheim. Some stops have new times or days of the week, and a few stops are no longer included. For the latest schedule, visit the library or Mobile Library, check the library Web site, or call 847/376-2785.
