Special Services for persons with disabilities
The library has special technology and a variety
of services to help persons with disabilities access information.
A wheelchair may be borrowed at the first floor Information Desk
for use in the library. The Assistive Technology room on the third
floor has a Reading Edge machine, an
image
magnifier, a
Perkins Brailler typewriter, and Braille slates and styluses, all
for use in the library. Magnifying glasses may be found at all
service desks.
Devices and materials that may be checked out
include a closed-circuit
television, Chicagoland Radio Information
Service receivers, Adapt-a-Lap book and magazine
holders, large
print books, and books on cassette and compact disc.
Homebound delivery is available for people who are
permanently or temporarily immobilized. Services also include
Voices of Vision books and magazines for those with sight or
physical impairments and videotapes for the hearing-impaired from
the federal captioned media program.
