Beginning around mid-December, the library's online
catalog will have a new look. Des Plaines and 21 other libraries in
the CCS consortium will begin using the iBistro catalog.
Roberta Johnson is coordinating the transition to
the new catalog for Des Plaines. She says, "The new catalog is
easier to use and provides more information on the screen where you
need it. I think everyone will enjoy the added value of easy access
to a lot of information." Many titles will have plot summaries,
book reviews, author biographies, and pictures of the book jackets.
A special "Kids Library" includes photos and graphics of
subject areas in an easy to use format.
Patrons will still be able to search the catalog
from inside the library or from any computer with Internet access.
They will be able to search the Des Plaines collection only or the
collections of other libraries in the consortium. Cardholders will
be able to check their own records, place reserves, and renew items
online.
