The Youth Services Department on the second
floor is designed to introduce very young children to the
joys of stories, the magic of poetry, and the creative
process involving words. Artist Robert Jessup used acrylic
paint to create this colorful, textural 80-foot mural, which
invites children of all ages to touch and explore.
The mural incorporates the double-sided
aquarium, which may be viewed from both the story/crafts
room and the main area.
The characters depicted are inspired by
storybooks and fairytales from around the world, each
transformed by the artist's unique interpretation
Jessup says, "We humans are storytellers.
We tell our stories by word of mouth, or with the written
word, but we also tell our stories through the pictures we
make."
