Computer Classes

Classes are held in the Computer Lab on the fourth floor. Most classes are a one and a half hour, hands-on class that meets for only one session. You may repeat a class if you want to improve your skills.

Register at the 4th floor Reference Services Desk, call 847-376-2841 or register online.

Registration begins on the 15th of each month.

Class schedule: September | October | November | December

Basic Computer Skills

Does it seem like absolutely everybody but you is using a computer? Do you know a little about computers but have never used one? Or have you tried to use a computer but just got frustrated? Then the Basic Computer Skills class is for you. You will learn the handful of basic mouse and typing skills that are needed to use simple computer programs and perform tasks online. The class will be as much fun as it is informative.

Computer Practice & Playtime

How do kids learn to use a computer so fast? They play computer games! Gaming is a fun and easy way to learn computer skills and get in some practice. You’ll be “clicking and dragging” in no time – even if you don’t know what that is! No registration is required. Just drop by and join the fun. A library staff member will be on hand to get you started and guide you through the games.

Introduction to the Internet

Your first visit to the Internet is almost guaranteed to be confusing without some basic information. This introductory class will teach you essential Internet skills and provide you with enough knowledge to avoid some of the all-too-common Internet pitfalls. Walk in a novice; walk out a “Googler.”

Intermediate Internet Searching

Now that you know your way around the Net, it’s time to expand your searching know-how. We’ll show you some tips and tricks for smarter searching and a few useful web sites you may not know about.

Drop-In Email Assistance

Do you want email but don’t know how to get it? Are you having problems finding something on the Internet? Not sure how to navigate a certain web site? Just want to practice your searching skills? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions this informal session is for you. No registration is required. Just drop in. A library staff member will be on hand to assist you and answer your questions.
