Show Us Your Library Card!
Our Centennial Celebration is just around the corner
Hello,

I'm Karen McBride, your new Web Services Librarian at the Des Plaines Public Library. I am also the new editor of the library's e-newsletter. 2007 marks the library's 100th anniversary and the theme of our celebration is, "Celebrate the Past, Create the Future." Fittingly, this month's e-news is filled with information about events that reflect the library's history and also exciting new technologies and services being offered by the Des Plaines Public Library.

Enjoy - and remember that we welcome your comments and suggestions. Stop in and visit us soon and remember to frequent our Web site. There is always something new to discover and explore at the Des Plaines Public Library.

Sincerely,

Karen McBride

Sunday, October 7

Our Centennial Celebration is just around the corner and we've worked hard all year to create a magical event you won't want to miss. Join us on Sunday, October 7, 2007, from 1-4 p.m. for a sensational carnival right on Library Plaza.

The kids will love the old-fashioned carousel rides and games and our bilingual storyteller. Library Plaza will ring with music from the Prairie Brass Band, Jimmy's Bavarians Show Band and barbershop quartet The Chordmasters. Free popcorn, cotton candy and lemonade will be sure to have you smiling and a short stroll down the street to the Des Plaines History Center will be rewarded with ice cream and root beer. (The History Center is located in Kinder House, also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.)

It's our way of thanking the community of Des Plaines for 100 years of support and friendship, so please come and be our guest for an afternoon of fun and more memories in the making. We'll send you a reminder at the end of September with more details.
