Are you a collector, or have you inherited colorful old glassware from your mother or grandmother? It might be Depression Era glass. Antique dealer Beverly Kennett will be happy to explain at Do the Dewey. She will display samples from her own extensive collection. And, if you bring a small piece or a photograph to the event, she will give you a free appraisal.

    Remember the Eastland Disaster
    eastland historical society

Susan Decker and Barbara Decker Wachholz will host a special slide program at Do the Dewey on the 1915 Eastland Disaster that claimed more than 800 lives on the Chicago River.

On July 24 of that year, more than 2,500 Western Electric employees and family members boarded the Eastland for a trip from Chicago to Michigan City, Indiana. The ship rolled over into the Chicago River near the wharf, turning the company picnic into a tragedy. Decker and Wachholz are the granddaughters of an Eastland survivor and founders of the Eastland Disaster Historical Society.
